The Plan

Many people have asked me where I plan to travel on this trip, and most of the time my response has simply been “Bali” or “I don’t know”, since we haven’t had any real concrete plans in place besides a flight to Bali. To make up for my poor responses to all my friends, family, and coworkers over the past few months, I thought I would write an article outlining our travel plans, and some of the destinations we are planning to go on our trip. As you might know if you have talked to AJ, Alex, or myself, the plans are all very tentative, but I’ll try to give you our best idea of things!

The main idea is to spend 3-5 months in South East Asia, and then make our way over to Europe via Russia and stay in Europe for as long as we can with what remaining funds we have left. We are still trying to work out many of the finer details, but we are hoping to be able to hit most of South East Asia, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and potentially Malaysia and Singapore. After this, the future is hazy, but it’s looking like we will try to go either to India and Nepal, or instead head north through China and Mongolia. We also heard from a great guy and fellow traveler we met in Bali named Sander, that trekking to Everest base camp is one of the most amazing things you can do in the world, so we are considering that seriously as well.

After this will be one of our most interesting stops, as we go behind the iron curtain, to Russia, where we will most likely fly to Moscow, train northwest to Petersburg, then hop the nearby border to the west to Finland or Estonia. From that point on everything is completely up in the air, but we hope to be able to trek cheaply around eastern Europe for a time, then make our way west. In the process we will try and make it to Italy to revisit our study abroad stomping grounds, head to Croatia to visit the beaches of the Aegean, and then it’s on to Germany to see our good friend Jackson Boyle, and then to France to see one of my best friends, Eric Monin. If we still have any money by this point there may be a Euro 2016 match in our future too.

By this point we will probably resemble underfed bearded hobos, and will most likely be ready to come home, but if we are still keen on living the dream, we may head over to Spain, and over to Portugal. We’ve heard from many people, including another awesome guy and fellow traveller we met in Bali by the name of Jamie, that Portugal is a wonderful place, so it would be great to make it over there at the end of our trip.

So that is the plan my friends, nothing is set in stone though, so if you know of anywhere around where we are going that shouldn’t be missed don’t be shy! Let us know in the comments or reach out to one of us so we can make sure we see it. Since the three of us are young and relatively inexperienced travellers, any advice on what to see or what to do in the areas we are travelling would be greatly appreciated! As always, thank you for taking the time out of your day to visit our blog and to read this post guys, check in again soon!

Take it easy everyone,
